How SMEs can drive positive community impact in Ireland

Bríd O’Connell

Learn how SMEs drive positive change by supporting local supply chains, building trust and giving back to their communities.

Small to medium enterprises (SMEs) add tremendous value to local economies. They generate jobs, foster connections with their local community and strengthen the ecosystem for long-term growth. Below are some cornerstones of success to guide modern SMEs.

Build trust and credibility

Trust is the foundation of every successful business. As the national symbol of trust, Guaranteed Irish helps businesses showcase their commitment to quality jobs, sustainable practices and community initiatives. Research shows that 91% of consumers believe buying from a business identified as such helps sustain local jobs, proving that trust translates into customer loyalty. A strong, credible reputation isn’t just about short-term gains; it’s about investing in long-term success.

According to research conducted with KPMG, every 100 jobs created by a Guaranteed Irish business, an additional 49 jobs are supported through the ripple effect in the supply chain, induced spending and wider economic activity. This reinforces their role in driving employment, economic resilience and consumer trust across Ireland.

Strengthen local supply chains

A resilient supply chain is key to business sustainability. By working with local suppliers, businesses reduce costs, lower environmental impact and foster valuable partnerships. Our members support one another, keeping money within the Irish economy and ensuring businesses across all industries grow together. A strong local network creates a competitive edge while reinforcing the strength of the Irish business community.

Give back to your community

Many businesses with our symbol support local initiatives, sponsor grassroots projects and contribute to regional economic growth. We encourage businesses to engage with their local communities, strengthening their brand while making a meaningful impact. The research from KPMG shows €59.3 million estimated total expenditure on social value initiatives by our member businesses. By focusing on trust, local supply chains and community engagement, businesses can secure long-term success and contribute to a stronger, more resilient Ireland.

We collaborated with The Nature Trust and five construction members to create Ireland’s first Guaranteed Irish Forest, a 12-hectare native tree haven in Inistioge, supporting biodiversity, climate action and community wellbeing.
